Montreal Cigar Smoking Chimp Yann Martel Print 17" x 22"

This chimp has a history that starts with author Yann Martel (Life of Pi, Beatrice and Virgil). He's a simple thing: originally, he's no more than 2" tall. His head is composed of a few chimp photos I took at Edmonton's Valley Zoo. His body was collaged together from an city map I denuded of letters and blasted with the Xerox, too, and perspective was forced via shrinking the blocks on further limbs. The smoke: drawn with a pen. The context: Maisonneuve magazine's November 2003 issue, where it accompanied an interview with the aforementioned Yann. The last question in the interview was "If Montreal was an animal, what kind would it be?" His answer? "A cigar-smoking chimpanzee."
